ZAMFARA 2019: Police Strategizes To Achieve Violence Free Elections


With less than 30 days to the commencement of the 2019 general elections, Zamfara State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim has put in place strategies for the Command to achieve violence free elections in the state.

According to a statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Mohammed Shehu the measures was parts of the Commissioner’s unwavering effort to ensure fair, credible and violence free elections in Zamfara state hence the re energising the operational capability of the command to provide adequate Security before, during and after the elections.

He said the Commissioner has directed the Command to put in place effective security measures to deal with cases of political thuggery, vandalization of political parties billboards and posters, hate speeches and other conducts likely to disrupt the process.

Zanna also directed for adequate deployment of security personnel to cover all the 147 wards of the 14 LGAs of the state and reinforcing the command’s Anti political thuggery section with personnel and logistics to effectively deal with cases of political thuggery and other violent crimes.

Other measures adopted by the Commissioner according to the Command’s Spokesman includes proper monitoring of campaigns and rallies to avoid clash of interest and carrying dangerous weapons or making hate speeches and ensuring regular meetings with members of Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Elections Security (ICCES).

Zanna also directed for the creation of additional Tactical Operation Points to checkmate movement of arms and other dangerous weapons that are likely to be used by miscreants during elections and maintenance of robust synergy with all stakeholders especially the INEC, political parties and their candidates.
