The rain, which lasted for three hours, started around 6:15 am on Wednesday, affecting areas such as Bulumkutu, Abuja, Moduganari, Ngomari, and other riverbank communities.
Residents were forced to flee their homes as floodwaters inundated their apartments and businesses. Ahmodu Ibrahim, a resident of Bulumkutu, recounted his ordeal, stating that he and his family were forced to seek safety after water flooded their apartment.
Shop owner Aisha Suraju also reported that her provisions were damaged by the floodwaters.
The Borno State Police Command has mobilized its personnel for rescue operations in the affected areas. According to ASP Nahum Daso, spokesperson for the command, eight buildings collapsed due to the flooding, but fortunately, no casualties were recorded.
The police have stationed officers at strategic locations to protect evacuated homes and properties from potential looting or criminal activities. The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmaji, has urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, and has advised parents and guardians to monitor their children closely to prevent them from playing in floodwaters.
