Governor Ahmed Aliyu flagged off the sales of subsidized fertilizers and agro-chemicals in Gwadabawa Local Government Area, stating that the fertilizers will be sold to farmers at a 40% subsidized rate. The NPK fertilizer will be sold for N28,800 per bag, while Urea fertilizer will be sold for N29,800.
In addition to fertilizers, the government has also procured 12,800 bags of improved seeds, herbicides, and insecticides valued at N606.65 million. The governor emphasized that the initiative is designed to ensure timely access to quality agricultural inputs and support the transition to mechanized farming.
As part of broader efforts to boost agricultural production, the state government has awarded a N22.1 billion contract for the supply of 250 units of Massey Ferguson MF-375 tractors. The government also plans to procure tiller machines to assist smallholder farmers.
Furthermore, contracts have been awarded for the rehabilitation of Lugu Dam and Kware irrigation facilities to enable all-year-round farming. The governor urged farmers to use the subsidized inputs responsibly and warned against diversion, directing security agencies to monitor the process closely.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including former deputy governor Chiso Dattijo, Commissioner for Agriculture Muhammad Alkali, and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Ibrahim Adare. The Sultan of Sokoto was represented by Dr. Jabir Kilgori.
