The attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when the security team was trailing the bandits following an earlier attempted attack in the area. The bandits laid an ambush around 1:00 a.m. and opened fire on the security personnel, catching them off guard.
According to eyewitnesses, the bandits carted away rifles belonging to the slain soldiers, as well as their uniforms.
The traditional leader of Safiyo, Abdullahi Yakubu, confirmed the incident and condemned the attack. He stated that the victims were caught off guard and that the community was alerted to the presence of bandits in the area.
Another resident, Ibrahim Sale, commented on the incident, stating that the attack has sparked confusion and growing resentment among residents of Dogon Ruwa and neighboring communities.
The Plateau State Police Command has yet to comment on the incident, as the spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, declined to respond to inquiries.
