According to Dr. Aderemi Adebowale, National Programme Manager of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), the expansion will cover children in early years, including primary 1 to 3 and primary 4 to 6, as well as out-of-school children, who will be gradually integrated into the program.
To control costs, the agency has formed partnerships with smallholder farmers, aggregators, and supply chain actors to negotiate prices and ensure reasonable costs per plate.
This initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to tackle poverty, improve child nutrition, and enhance educational participation.
The program builds on the Alternate Education and Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Project, launched on May 27, 2025, which aims to provide meals for 20 million out-of-school and underserved children by 2026.
