More than 10,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Zamfara State’s 14 local government areas have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The move was formalized on Sunday when over 2,000 representatives of the defectors were received by Aminu Sani Jaji, a member of the House of Representatives for Birnin Magaji/Kaura Namoda Federal Constituency.
Speaking at his residence in Gusau, Jaji hailed the defection as a sign of APC’s growing dominance in the state, predicting a sweep of all elective positions in the 2027 elections.
“I am delighted that these defectors have chosen to join the APC through my Jajiyya movement, demonstrating their confidence in our development-driven politics,” he said. Jaji assured the new members of equal opportunities within the party, stating they would “not regret this decision.”
He expressed optimism about APC’s electoral prospects, claiming, “From presidential to gubernatorial and other seats, our candidates will win in 2027. Zamfara is now a one-party state.”
Jaji also emphasized the resolution of past internal divisions that contributed to APC’s 2019 defeat. “Today, there’s perfect unity among our leaders and members. We’ve addressed the issues that cost us victory and are committed to avoiding similar mistakes,” he added.
