Zamfara CPG Arrest Driver with Cache of Deadly Weapons

Officials of the Zamfara Communit Protection Guard (CPG), locally known as Askarawa, have arrested a driver transporting a cache of weapons suspected to be destined for armed bandits. The interception occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation in Dangulbi community.

Recovered items included two AK-47 rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), and ammunition. A CPG member, Salisu Adamu, revealed that the arms were hidden inside a carton of fish. The driver initially resisted the search before the discovery was made.

The suspect, Bashar Mustapha, admitted the weapons were found in his vehicle but claimed they belonged to a female passenger who boarded in Gusau. He stated he was transporting passengers and goods from Gusau Park to Magami when intercepted.

Authorities are investigating further to unravel the source and intended recipients of the weapons. The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by local vigilante groups to curb banditry in Zamfara State.
