Goronyo emphasized the Federal Government’s dedication to finishing the reconstruction on time to alleviate the hardships faced by road users. He stated that the inspection was part of President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the ministry to ensure all ongoing projects proceed as scheduled and meet required standards.
Leading a team of ministry officials, including directors, Goronyo assessed the progress of the road projects across Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kaduna States. He stressed the importance of adhering to contractual agreements and delivering high-quality work promptly.
While praising the contractors working on the Sokoto-Tureta-Mafara section for achieving 27% completion, he urged them to maintain momentum. However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress on the Mafara-Maru-Gusau stretch, which had only reached 16% completion. The government is considering reassigning part of this segment to another contractor if performance does not improve.
The minister acknowledged challenges such as delayed compensation payments to property owners along the route but noted that Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s intervention had resolved the issue, allowing work to resume fully. He also commended Governor Aliyu and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for ensuring security and safeguarding workers.
Goronyo highlighted President Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure development, including concrete road projects for durability. He mentioned the ongoing 1,068-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, a project initially envisioned by former President Shehu Shagari 47 years ago, as a key initiative to boost commerce and security.
The minister concluded by reaffirming Tinubu’s focus on nationwide development, urging public support ahead of the 2027 elections. He was accompanied on the inspection by senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Works, who engaged with affected communities and pledged timely compensation payments.
