According to a statement by Yusuf Idris Gusau, the APC Publicity Secretary in Zamfara, Bashir was abducted late at night by four individuals claiming to be DSS operatives attached to the Government House. They arrived in a jeep with covered plates and forcibly took him from a football viewing center in Sabon Gari, Gusau. Witnesses reported that the security agents fired live bullets to intimidate bystanders, causing panic as they bundled Bashir into their vehicle and drove off.
Efforts to locate Bashir have been unsuccessful. Checks at police stations across Gusau confirmed he was not detained there, and his phone lines remain switched off. The APC expressed fears that he may have been harmed or unlawfully held within the Government House.
The party described the incident as a misuse of power by the Dauda Lawal administration, accusing the governor of turning state security into a tool for political persecution. The APC noted that similar tactics were used against its members in the past but were halted after public outcry. However, these actions have now resurfaced.
The APC vowed to resist the unjust treatment of its members through legal means, stating that lawyers have been mobilized to take action. The party also called on the Inspector General of Police and the Director-General of the DSS to investigate the conduct of their personnel assigned to the Government House.
While urging its members to remain calm, the APC reaffirmed its commitment to challenging the PDP-led government in Zamfara, declaring that no amount of intimidation would derail its efforts to regain power in the 2027 elections.
