In an effort to ensure that women in the state experience relief during the Ramadan period, the wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Aliyu, has distributed food items to 5,000 women across the state.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, Hajiya Fatima said the gesture was aimed at ensuring that women do not lack food for the pre-dawn meal (Suhoor) and Iftar throughout the fasting period.
She further disclosed that the state government recently provided financial support and cash assistance to Imams, Deputy Imams, Muazzins, the physically challenged, widows, and orphans across the state to enable them observe the Ramadan fast with ease.
According to her, since assuming office, the present administration has consistently provided food and cash assistance to vulnerable groups, including women, as part of its commitment to improving their welfare.
“I want to assure you that this administration will continue to prioritize the welfare of our women and children through various interventions and support programmes,” she added.
Hajiya Fatima therefore appealed to women across the state to continue supporting the present administration in its quest to uplift the living standards of the populace.
She also urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the food items to achieve the intended objectives.
In her remarks, the wife of the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Hajiya Farida Tukur Bala, commended the Governor’s wife for the numerous charitable initiatives she has introduced since assuming office.
She called on women in the state to continue supporting the administration’s efforts to transform Sokoto State.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Ahmed Shagari, lauded the Governor’s wife for consistently introducing Ramadan support packages for women each year to enable them observe the fast without hardship.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, stated that the state government, through her ministry, has supported many vulnerable groups in order to improve their living conditions.
In her welcome address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Engagements, Hajiya Zainab Umar Dasuki, expressed optimism that the gesture by the Governor’s wife would go a long way in putting smiles on the faces of many families across the state.
The highlight of the event was the distribution of food items to various women groups and local government areas by the Governor’s wife, alongside the wives of the State Deputy Governor and the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Hajiya Aisha Idris and Hajiya Farida Tukur Bala Bodinga.
During the event, Governor Ahmed Aliyu and his wife were also presented with an award by the Department of SIWES, Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto.
