In a statement signed by Mansur M. Haruna, Director General, New Media Team, Office of Senator Kabir Garba Marafa said the announcement followed a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held in Kaduna State, where Senator Marafa consulted extensively with his political allies and supporters. After careful deliberations and consideration of the future direction of the political movement, Senator Marafa formally declared his decision to align with the African Democratic Congress.
In his remarks, Senator Marafa called on the good people of Zamfara State to massively register with the ADC and support the party as a credible platform for political transformation, accountability, and good governance.
The Senator also confirmed his decision to resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing growing concerns over what he described as political manipulations, including alleged attempts to exploit the National Identification Number (NIN) database for partisan political registration. He noted that his formal resignation would follow due process and legal procedures, which will officially delist his membership from the APC, he also advised his supporters across Zamfara state to formally resign from the APC.
Senator Marafa expressed deep appreciation to the leaders of his political movement, particularly acknowledging the commitment and leadership of Alhaji Surajo Garba Mai Katako, whose efforts he described as central to sustaining the unity and strength of the movement.
He also extended his profound gratitude to former Inspector General of Police Mohammed Dikko Abubakar for his consistent support and encouragement throughout the engagement process. The Senator further appreciated Hon. Kabir Garba Gusau, the Chairman of Zamfara ADC for his dedication and commitment during the consultations that led to the historic decision.
Reaffirming his commitment to the ADC, Senator Marafa pledged to actively participate in strengthening the party and called on members of the ADC to work together with sincerity, unity, and a shared vision in order to achieve meaningful political progress.
He further revealed that in the coming days he will return to his hometown of Yandoto to formally submit his resignation from the APC and officially obtain his ADC membership. This will be followed by a major gathering of ADC supporters and members in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State.
Speaking on the current national political climate, Senator Marafa criticized what he described as attempts by the ruling administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to create confusion and instability within opposition political parties. He maintained, however, that no amount of political pressure or crisis would deter his movement from joining the ADC, stressing that the decision represents a firm commitment to liberate the people from what he termed “political bondage.”
On the issue of the one million votes he earlier vowed to subtract from the electoral strength of President Tinubu, Senator Marafa noted that recent political developments, including the growing influence of opposition figures such as former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, are already reshaping the political landscape and weakening the ruling party’s electoral dominance.
Known for his principled stance and unwavering commitment to political accountability, Senator Marafa now emerges as a formidable opposition leader in Zamfara State. For years, the people of the state have called on him to lead a new political direction, and with this development, that call has now been formally answered.
This historic move signals the beginning of a renewed political journey and strengthens the hope for a more prosperous, inclusive, and progressive Zamfara State.
