Armed bandits led by notorious kingpin Kachalla Bello, also known as Dansadiya, have reportedly killed many captives in Zamfara State.
The victims, from Yamutsawa and Banga villages in Kauran Namoda Local Government Area, were among over 80 residents abducted during separate attacks on the two communities.
Survivors claim that up to 50 people were killed, including three infants born in captivity. Residents confirmed that 50 people were abducted from Banga, with only 18 surviving.
Similarly, 20 out of 33 people kidnapped from Yamutsawa died in captivity. The victims were mostly youths aged 17-20.
Survivors recounted disturbing accounts of their ordeal, claiming that Dansadiya forced some captives to kill others at gunpoint. Locals describe Dansadiya as ruthless, demanding exorbitant ransoms and executing victims even after payments.
The worsening insecurity in the area is partly attributed to poor coordination between residents and security forces, complicated by communication barriers.
Efforts to get a reaction from the Zamfara State Police Command were unsuccessful.
