The new buses, unveiled on Sunday, bring the total number of vehicles procured by the Ahmed Aliyu-led administration to 70.
At the handover ceremony, Deputy Governor Idris Muhammed Gobir handed over the keys to the state Commissioner for Transportation, Bala Kokani.
Gobir explained that the new buses were part of a fleet earlier procured by the government, but were withheld pending the completion of the state's digital ticketing platform.
The e-ticketing system allows passengers to book and pay for trips online, eliminating bottlenecks and long queues at terminals.
The initiative aims to ease the transportation burden on citizens, especially amid economic challenges following the removal of fuel subsidies.
The e-ticketing system also ensures transparency and accountability in the mass transit service's operations, guaranteeing value for money.
Gobir urged the ministry to ensure strict supervision, regular maintenance, and cleanliness of the vehicles.
Commissioner Kokani thanked Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his investment in the transport sector, describing the development as a milestone in the administration's efforts to modernize public mobility.
The launch of the e-ticketing system and the introduction of additional buses are expected to reduce congestion, enhance convenience, and contribute to a more efficient and transparent public transportation network in Sokoto.
