At the inauguration of the 5th Governing Council of TRCN in Abuja, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa ordered an immediate clampdown on substandard teaching practices. He mandated the withdrawal of licenses from educators found tarnishing the profession's image, emphasizing that the era of mediocrity in Nigeria's education system is over.
Alausa stated that the inauguration marks a renewed national drive toward professionalizing teaching and restoring education's dignity under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Minister tasked the new council with:
- Integrating digital tools in teacher certification
- Implementing robust systems for tracking Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
- Preparing educators for emerging trends like artificial intelligence and hybrid learning
- Enforcing ethical codes strictly
- Establishing a reward system to honor teaching excellence
Alausa urged partnerships with state governments, UNESCO, and stakeholders to elevate Nigeria's education standards to global benchmarks, citing Finland as an example where teachers are highly respected.
Comrade Mustapha Saliu, Chairman of the newly inaugurated Governing Council, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and pledged the council's commitment to transforming the profession.
TRCN Registrar Dr. Ronke Soyombo praised the Federal Government's educational reforms, assuring stakeholders that Nigerian teachers will be globally competitive.
This renewed focus on teacher quality underscores the administration's resolve that no education system can outperform the quality of its educators.
