The United States has expressed concerns over the alleged lack of fiscal responsibility among Nigerian leaders, who are spending billions on new government houses while urging citizens to endure economic hardship.
According to a report by @TheAfricaReport, some governors are splurging billions on luxurious government houses, vehicles, sparking widespread criticism and concerns over the country's priorities.
@BudgITng, a Nigerian civic organization, warned that instead of allocating funds to essential public services such as schools, clinics, and agriculture, leaders are prioritizing buildings that are barely used.
"This lack of fiscal responsibility fuels inequality and erodes public trust," @BudgITng stated.
The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (@cislacnigeria) also weighed in on the issue, noting that "there is more money, little accountability, and no priority" in the country's governance.
The criticism comes amidst widespread economic hardship in Nigeria, with citizens being urged to endure difficulties "like labor pains."
The US concern highlights the need for greater transparency and accountability in Nigeria's governance, particularly in relation to public spending and resource allocation.
