Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Oguwike Nwachuku, assured the public that the new wage is sustainable and not a populist move. He attributed the increase to a massive growth in the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which has risen from less than ₦400 million to ₦3-4 billion.
Nwachuku highlighted the government's efforts to block financial leakages, digitize processes, and create a conducive environment for investment. He also pointed to visible infrastructure projects, such as the construction of 46 roads, as evidence of the government's fiscal prudence.
The wage increase will be implemented with the August 2025 salaries, with consequential adjustments for other civil service cadres to follow in subsequent months. Nwachuku emphasized that the decision was made after careful consideration of the state's financial capacity and was not a political gamble.
