According to the group's leader, Dr. Joseph Ambakaderimo, those urging Jonathan to join the presidential race do not have his best interests at heart and are instead seeking to destroy him politically.
Ambakaderimo expressed skepticism about the sudden interest in Jonathan's candidacy from northerners who had previously criticized him during his presidency.
He questioned the motivations behind the calls for Jonathan to run, suggesting that it may be a ploy to divide southern votes and pave the way for a northern candidate to win the presidency with a relatively small number of votes.
Ambakaderimo warned that this strategy could lead to a runoff election in 2027 and ultimately benefit the northern candidate.
The SSRG leader emphasized that his group is monitoring the situation closely and waiting for Jonathan to declare his intentions before making further comments.
The warning comes after a pro-Jonathan group, Bring Back Our Goodluck, called on the former president to contest the 2027 presidential election, claiming that Nigerians were "misled" into voting out his administration in 2015.
