Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, FRSC State Sector Commander, emphasized the importance of safety, stating that crashes involving motorcycles without helmets often result in fatalities and severe injuries.
Ibitoye advised motorcyclists to avoid highways altogether, but if they must use them, to wear crash helmets and exercise caution, especially around heavy vehicles.
"We are preaching safety first," he said. "The use of helmets is non-negotiable. We will impound motorcycles and fine riders, but our primary concern is saving lives."
The commander appealed to traditionalists, religious leaders, and title-holders to set an example by wearing helmets while riding motorcycles.
"Crashes do not discriminate based on religion, tradition, or social status," Ibitoye said. "Prioritize your safety over your title or position. If you must ride, wear a helmet; otherwise, use alternative transportation."
