Lagos State NLC Chairperson, Funmi Sesi, emphasized the need for a fair and balanced wage structure, warning against a system that disproportionately favors political office holders over ordinary workers.
Sesi argued that the current economic realities affect all citizens equally, regardless of their profession or status. "We all go to the same market, pay the same prices for food, electricity, and transportation. The government should not be one-sided," she said.
The NLC chairperson condemned the proposed salary increase for political leaders by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), pointing out that the minimum wage of ₦70,000 has already been eroded by inflation.
Sesi emphasized that a holistic salary harmonization policy is necessary, citing the disparity in salaries between some agency heads and the President. "If some agency heads earn more than the President, then something is fundamentally wrong," she said.
The NLC has vowed to reject any wage policy that further impoverishes workers while enriching politicians. Sesi demanded fairness, balance, and equity in wage policies, stressing that the government must prioritize the welfare of all citizens, not just political leaders.
