According to Police Spokesman Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred on August 30, 2025, at Kasuwan Garba in the council area. Ammaye, a food seller and Muslim faithful, was said to have engaged in a verbal exchange with a young man, reportedly her nephew, which led to the alleged blasphemous comment.
The matter was taken to the palace of the District Head of Kasuwan Garba, where Ammaye was interrogated and allegedly repeated the comment. Despite being handed over to security operatives, a mob of agitated youths overpowered them, insisting on her immediate execution.
Before security reinforcement arrived, the mob stoned Ammaye to death and set her body ablaze. The Police Command has condemned the act of jungle justice and assured that efforts are underway to identify, arrest, and prosecute those involved.
The Chairman of Mariga Local Government, Abbas Adamu, confirmed that calm has been restored to the area. The Police have appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
