The decision was made during the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Monday.
In another key development, the NEC affirmed Umar Damagum as the party's national chairman, retaining the chairmanship position in the North.
Damagum had emerged as the acting national chairman in March 2023, following a court order that confirmed the removal of former Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.
Prior to his appointment, Damagum served as the PDP National Deputy Chairman (North).
In his acceptance speech, Damagum expressed his gratitude to the party's leadership for the confidence reposed in him and the National Working Committee (NWC).
He acknowledged the challenges faced by the party and appreciated the support of the NWC, stating that the gesture was not just for him, but for the entire committee.
Damagum also praised the party's resilience, noting that despite the difficulties, the PDP remained intact and united.
