Marafa, who represented Zamfara Central at the National Assembly from 2011 to 2019, announced his decision to leave the APC along with his entire structure in Zamfara State. This development follows a meeting in Kaduna that lasted from Wednesday to Thursday.
During the 2023 presidential election campaign, Marafa had vigorously supported Tinubu, assuring him that he would deliver Zamfara State. Marafa had even requested Tinubu not to visit the state, confident that he could secure the state's votes.
However, in a communique issued at the end of the meeting of the Senator Kabiru Marafa Consultative Forum, Marafa's supporters expressed their disappointment with the APC and President Tinubu. The communique cited the sustained injustice, mistrust, marginalization, and deliberate neglect of Zamfara State and its people.
The communique also highlighted the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara State, despite President Tinubu's campaign promises to address the issue. The meeting noted that the federal government had failed to provide support to communities affected by kidnappings and killings, and that the state had been sidelined in terms of human development, infrastructure, and political appointments.
Marafa's supporters stated that they would announce their next political direction in due course, guided by the collective interest of the people of Zamfara State.
