In a statement, the party said Nigerians would not wish to extend the President’s rule "by a single day," given the spate of banditry, killings, hunger, punitive taxes, and unprecedented abuse of power. The ADC argued that Tinubu should prepare to leave in 2027, as any plan to stay longer would confirm the government’s inability to "read the room."
The statement followed the Presidency’s dismissal of claims by former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai that Tinubu harbored ambitions of becoming a "life President." The ADC accused the administration of being out of touch and self-satisfied, treating re-election as a given without accountability.
The party criticized Tinubu’s handling of national security, stating that bandits and terrorists now operate with impunity, kidnapping citizens and turning rural areas into war zones. Economically, the ADC blamed the administration for the naira’s collapse, hyperinflation, vanishing jobs, and business failures due to punitive policies.
The ADC also condemned the government’s failures in power supply, healthcare, education, and human rights, asserting that Nigerians have grown poorer and angrier since Tinubu took office. The party warned that any talk of a second term was insensitive and dangerous, urging the President to prepare to leave rather than plotting to stay.
The ADC accused Tinubu of attempting to replicate his Lagos political dominance at the national level, declaring, "Nigeria is not Lagos." The party concluded that the 2027 election would not be a contest between the APC and ADC but between the ruling party and the Nigerian people.
