El-Rufai's petition, made public on Monday, accuses the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State and some officers of engaging in acts "unbecoming of their calling" since assuming office on December 30, 2024. He claims that an earlier petition to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, failed to address the "egregiously unlawful" conduct of the officers.
The former governor, who was recently invited for questioning by the Kaduna Police Command but failed to honor the invitation, alleges that some police officers are "serving interests other than those conferred by law," which he believes tarnishes the image of the force and erodes public confidence in its leadership.
El-Rufai's petition comes after the Kaduna Police Command summoned him and six top members of the African Democratic Congress over alleged conspiracy, incitement, mischief, and disturbance of public peace in the state. The Kaduna State Police Command has yet to react officially to the petition.
