The Executive Secretary of the board stated that the approval reflects the governor’s commitment to human capital development and his belief that education is essential for peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
Since the administration began, the government has consistently supported students through bursary disbursements. Over ₦637.9 million was disbursed to 47,935 students for the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions, while ₦544.2 million was given to 37,802 students for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 sessions. Additionally, more than ₦744.1 million was disbursed to 50,438 students for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 sessions.
Students were also informed that approvals for the 2024/2025 local scholarships for 12,609 fresh students, as well as academic excellence awards and special scholarships for students with disabilities, will soon be granted. These will be officially announced during an upcoming inauguration ceremony.
With these interventions, the total number of beneficiaries has reached 174,461 students. The scholarship board is working to ensure the smooth and timely disbursement of the newly approved funds.
Beyond local support, the governor has also sponsored students to study abroad in specialized and competitive fields.
In a related development, the state government revoked licenses for all private and community schools in August to ensure quality education, standardization, and effective regulation of teaching and learning across Katsina.
