The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) have also threatened to join the strike. PETROAN has given a three-day notice, starting from Tuesday, September 9, 2025, to suspend lifting and dispensing of petroleum products.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, has intervened, calling for a truce and urging NUPENG to reconsider its stance on the nationwide industrial action. The minister has invited all parties for a conciliation meeting.
The dispute has also drawn in the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which has accused Dangote Refinery of anti-labour practices. The NLC has warned that if left unchecked, the anti-union policies could set a dangerous precedent, allowing powerful corporations to flout Nigerian labour laws and international conventions.
