Kidnappers Strike in Zamfara, Abduct Two Councillors, Islamic Cleric

The Zamfara Police Command confirmed that suspected gunmen kidnapped two councillors and an Imam in Tsauni community, Gusau, on Wednesday night. The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, stated that the victims were taken from their homes around 7:00 pm after evening prayers.

The abducted councillors represent Gidan Gona and Tsibiri wards in Maradun Local Government Area, while the Imam serves the Tsauni community. The area, located behind the Zamfara Federal Road Safety Sector Command, has previously sheltered internally displaced persons affected by banditry.

Police have deployed operatives to the scene and are working to secure the victims’ release. Authorities urged residents to provide timely information to prevent such incidents.

Separately, Maradun Local Government Chairman Sanusi Gamagiwa disclosed that the attackers initially kidnapped six people but later released three. The remaining captives—the two councillors and the Imam—have not yet been contacted by the abductors regarding their demands.
