This allocation primarily covers personnel costs, pensions, and statutory transfers. Following closely is the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning with 9.102 trillion naira, a 34.25 percent increase from the previous year. The Ministry of Defence is set to receive 3.15 trillion naira, reflecting a 7.88 percent rise, while the Ministry of Works sees a sharp 206 percent increase to 3.49 trillion naira, signaling a major push for infrastructure development.
However, some sectors face reductions. The Ministry of Power’s allocation drops by 47.3 percent to 1.107 trillion naira, while Education receives 2.398 trillion naira, a 4.84 percent decrease. The Ministry of Niger Delta’s budget falls by 39.5 percent to 1.35 trillion naira. In contrast, Health and Social Welfare gains a 12.5 percent increase to 2.149 trillion naira, and Agriculture and Food Security rises to 1.45 trillion naira, emphasizing food security efforts. The Independent National Electoral Commission also sees a notable increase to 1.013 trillion naira ahead of future elections.
President Bola Tinubu presented the budget amid economic challenges, including high debt costs and inflation, aiming to balance fiscal discipline with growth priorities. Lawmakers will now review the proposals, with a focus on spending efficiency and revenue performance.
