The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed an ex-parte application, which Justice Emeka Nwite granted. The properties, spread across Abuja, Kebbi, Kano, and Kaduna, include university buildings, hotels, schools, filling stations, warehouses, residential buildings, plazas, shops, factories, and large parcels of land.
Justice Nwite directed the EFCC to publish the forfeiture order in a national newspaper, allowing interested parties 14 days to contest the forfeiture. The case has been adjourned to January 27, 2026, for a compliance report.
Among the listed assets are a luxury duplex in Maitama, Abuja, purchased for ₦500 million but now valued at ₦5.95 billion; a two-winged storey building in Garki, Abuja, bought for ₦7 billion; and a five-storey hotel in Jabi, Abuja, acquired for ₦850 million and later completed at a cost of ₦8.4 billion. Other properties include commercial plazas, residential estates, and land parcels in various locations.
Malami, his wife, Bashir Asabe, and his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz, are already facing trial before Justice Nwite for alleged money laundering involving ₦8.7 billion. The interim forfeiture is part of ongoing efforts to recover assets suspected to be linked to corruption.
