Angelina Jolie Tours Egypt, Calls for Urgent Gaza Relief

Hollywood actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie visited the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing into Gaza on January 2, 2026, to assess the humanitarian situation and observe aid efforts. Accompanied by an American delegation, she met with Red Crescent volunteers and aid truck drivers, expressing deep respect for their work. A volunteer informed her that thousands of aid trucks remain stranded at the border, unable to enter Gaza due to ongoing restrictions.

Jolie’s visit focused on understanding the conditions of injured Palestinians being transferred to Egypt and the challenges in delivering aid to Gaza, which has suffered severe devastation. The Rafah crossing was expected to reopen under a ceasefire agreement, but it has remained closed, hindering critical humanitarian assistance.

In response to the crisis, Egypt and six other nations, including Saudi Arabia, issued a joint statement urging the international community to pressure Israel to lift restrictions on aid delivery. Earlier, Israel claimed the crossing would only permit departures from Gaza, a statement quickly denied by Egyptian authorities.

Jolie, a longtime advocate for refugees, previously served as a UNHCR special envoy for over two decades before stepping down in 2022 to expand her humanitarian efforts. Neither Jolie nor Egyptian officials have yet released an official statement regarding her visit. The situation at the border remains tense, with aid organizations calling for immediate action to alleviate the suffering in Gaza.
