Bandits launched attacks on Maikogo and Maiaya’a communities in Zamfara State, abducting several villagers. The Zamfara State Police Command is working to confirm the exact number of those kidnapped.
A villager, who chose to remain anonymous, described the attacks as horrifying, forcing residents to flee into the bush for safety, abandoning their belongings. The police are still gathering details on the incident and will release an official statement soon.
In a separate incident, explosives planted by suspected bandits detonated along the road between Maikogo and Mai’ayaya communities. The blasts occurred as a security-escorted convoy was passing through the area, destroying two motorcycles and killing four people. A second explosion later struck trailers on the road, claiming five more lives.
Security personnel accompanying the convoy engaged the attackers in a gunfight and pursued them into nearby forests. So far, seven bodies have been recovered, with search efforts ongoing, raising concerns that the death toll may increase.
The attack reportedly took place around 11:00 p.m. on December 31, 2025, just as residents were preparing to welcome the new year. This tragedy occurred despite prior security warnings about possible attacks in the region.
