In a statement released by Suleiman Tudu, the SSG’s media aide, the government described the APC’s celebration of the defection as exaggerated. The statement emphasized that Bello Nakwada’s decision was a personal choice and not politically consequential.
The SSG’s office pointed out that the APC’s focus on this minor defection comes at a time when many of its own members are leaving to support Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal. Notable departures from the APC include former state chairman Lawali Makaman Kaura and prominent youth leaders Jamilu Adamu Escape and Ramadan Mijinyawa.
The statement criticized the APC for inflating the importance of the defection, comparing it to a desperate attempt to appear relevant. It also noted that political differences among family members are not uncommon, citing examples like Atiku Abubakar’s son joining a rival party.
Additionally, the SSG’s office challenged the APC to explain why the younger brother of its leader, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, is a member of the PDP. The statement reaffirmed the SSG’s commitment to Governor Lawal’s administration and dismissed any suggestion that the defection would affect his role.
The SSG’s office concluded that while individuals are free to choose their political affiliations, the APC’s attempt to frame this as a significant event only reveals its own instability.
