In a statement released shortly after the court’s decision, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, clarified that the ruling did not question the validity of the Ibadan Convention. Instead, the court declined the request for mandamus, stating that granting it would effectively amount to reviewing decisions made by courts of equal authority.
The PDP has already initiated steps to appeal the ruling, urging members to stay calm and resolute. Ememobong emphasized that the party’s legal team has been instructed to file an appeal promptly to seek a definitive resolution from higher courts.
The party dismissed any claims that the ruling undermines the Turaki-led leadership, labeling such interpretations as premature and incorrect. It stressed that the convention’s outcomes remain legally binding pending further judicial review.
Beyond the courtroom, the PDP is focused on maintaining unity among its members and supporters, particularly as rival groups may attempt to capitalize on the situation. The party assured its followers that there is no reason for concern and reiterated its commitment to ongoing reforms under the "REBIRTH" agenda.
This ruling marks another development in the prolonged battle for control within the PDP, with multiple legal cases still unresolved across different courts.
