A formal handover of the project site was conducted by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, in partnership with the Zamfara Geographic Information System (ZAGIS), the Ministry of Security and Home Affairs, and other security agencies. The ministry’s Information Officer, Jamilu Bello, confirmed the development in a statement.
The trench will act as a protective barrier, aligning with national and international aviation security standards. The designated boundary will also include perimeter fencing, security installations, and other necessary safety features to ensure smooth airport functionality.
During the handover ceremony, Engr. Amiru Musa Anka, leading the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure delegation, emphasized the government’s dedication to completing the airport project efficiently while adhering to best practices. He highlighted the collaborative efforts between ministries, security agencies, and the contractor as a key factor in accelerating progress.
Representatives from ZAGIS and the Ministry of Lands confirmed that all land documentation, boundary verification, and legal processes had been finalized to prevent disputes during construction. Security agencies also committed to supporting the contractor to ensure immediate implementation of security protocols.
Additionally, the project committee visited the host community leader, Uban Kasar Rawayya, Alhaji Rashi, who pledged full community support for the initiative. The committee also met with Arch. A. A. Gusau, Chairman of the Host Community/Compensation Committee, who assured fair and transparent compensation in compliance with government policies.
The Gusau International Airport remains a priority project under Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration, designed to stimulate economic growth, improve transportation networks, enhance security, and attract investments to Zamfara State.
