Oluyede emphasized that the initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Service Chiefs and has received approval from President Bola Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He encouraged personnel to remain hopeful, stating, “If I tell you we are working on something, please be hopeful. Something positive will come up.”
The CDS highlighted that 2026 is expected to bring significant improvements for military personnel, not only in terms of salary adjustments but also through enhanced post-service benefits. Plans include providing low-interest loans to spouses to support small businesses and expanding housing loan schemes for both active and retired service members. These measures aim to ensure dignified living conditions for military families.
Oluyede praised the dedication and professionalism of the armed forces in protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty, noting that their efforts have led to notable successes in various operations. He also honored fallen heroes and acknowledged the sacrifices made by military families, describing their support as an unseen yet vital force behind the success of every mission.
The Defence Chief expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his continued support and commended the Service Chiefs for their leadership in advancing the welfare of personnel.
Earlier in the event, Rear Admiral Gideon Kachim, the Chief of Defence Administration (CDA), explained that the Social Night was organized to allow personnel to relax, reflect, and celebrate their service. He also emphasized the importance of remembering fallen heroes, whose sacrifices remain an enduring inspiration to those still in service.
The gathering was attended by top military officials, including the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu; the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas; the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke; and the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiandeye.
The event featured the presentation of awards to outstanding personnel in recognition of their exceptional service. Additionally, guests were entertained by performances from renowned musicians such as Tuface Idibia, Zule Zoo, and Magnito.
The Social Night was part of the activities commemorating the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
