In a statement released in Abuja on Saturday, NELFUND confirmed that it has not instructed any students to begin loan repayments, despite false claims spreading on social media and some news outlets. The statement was signed by Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications, who emphasized the Fund’s commitment to engaging with stakeholders and providing accurate information when required.
This clarification came after the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prof. Edoba Bright Omoregie (SAN), publicly disowned a fake document that supposedly outlined repayment procedures for NELFUND loans. The university confirmed that the document did not come from UNIBEN and that neither NELFUND nor the federal government has issued any repayment guidelines.
NELFUND further reassured students that the terms for loan repayment are clearly stated in its Establishment Act, which protects beneficiaries from repayment obligations while they are still in school or unemployed after graduation.
