Zamfara, endowed with fertile land, abundant water resources, and a vibrant workforce, continues to grapple with high unemployment, poverty, and overdependence on federal allocations. The youths argue that these challenges can be overcome through deliberate investments in sectors with proven potential, leveraging the state’s natural advantages.
The proposal specifically calls on Senator Abdulazeez Yari, a former governor and current senator, to utilize his influence, resources, and political networks to drive transformative projects. One key area identified is the revitalization of the Bakalori Dam, a national asset with untapped hydroelectric potential. The dam, originally designed for power generation, remains non-functional due to outdated equipment. Modernizing its infrastructure could provide reliable electricity to Zamfara and neighboring states, spurring industrial growth, improving healthcare and education, and creating jobs across technical and professional fields.
Agriculture, another critical sector, was described as ripe for transformation. Despite being a major producer of rice, maize, and sorghum, Zamfara’s farming practices remain largely subsistence-based, lacking modern machinery, processing facilities, and storage infrastructure. Investments in mechanized farming, agro-processing plants, and storage systems could revolutionize the sector, creating employment opportunities along the entire value chain while boosting food security and internally generated revenue.
The youths also acknowledged the efforts of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration in infrastructure rehabilitation and institutional reforms, stressing the importance of collaboration over political rivalry. They urged Senator Yari and Governor Lawal to work together, leveraging their respective strengths to fast-track development projects through public-private partnerships and federal support.
The proposal concluded with a call for long-term, strategic investments rather than short-term relief measures. It emphasized that leadership should be measured by tangible outcomes—jobs created, revenue generated, and lives improved. The youths expressed hope that their appeal would inspire actionable steps toward a brighter future for Zamfara State.
