Tinubu, Shettima Allocate ₦12.18 Billion for Travel in 2026 Budget

The 2026 budget proposal submitted to Nigeria’s National Assembly reveals that President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and their teams are set to spend a combined total of ₦12.18 billion on foreign and domestic travel. The breakdown shows that President Tinubu’s office has allocated ₦7.014 billion for travel, with ₦6.14 billion dedicated to international trips and ₦873.89 million for local travel. Similarly, Vice President Shettima’s office has earmarked ₦1.732 billion for travel, including ₦1.31 billion for international engagements and ₦417.49 million for domestic movement.

An additional ₦3.433 billion is allocated under State House Headquarters for general travel and transport expenses. The budget further outlines other expenditures, such as ₦179.01 million for new vehicles for the President, ₦375.19 million for food and catering supplies, ₦79.68 million for medical supplies, and ₦56.43 million for refreshments.

The President’s total budget stands at ₦8.39 billion, with ₦777.19 million set aside for capital projects. Meanwhile, the Vice President’s office has a total allocation of ₦2.64 billion, including ₦171.03 million for food and catering, ₦14.99 million for refreshments, and ₦21.8 million for honorariums.

The State House headquarters’ total budget for 2026 is ₦43.20 billion, covering personnel costs (₦2.64 billion), overheads (N10.10 billion), and capital expenditure (N30.49 billion). Notable allocations include ₦11.23 billion for new vehicles, ₦7 billion for solar power installations, ₦2.424 billion for wildlife conservation, and ₦8.48 billion for office building repairs. Other provisions include N3.84 billion for vehicle maintenance, ₦44.21 million for residential building repairs, and smaller sums for library books, sporting equipment, and office construction.

The budget reflects continued emphasis on international engagements and infrastructure upgrades despite ongoing fiscal challenges.
