Zamfara PDP Raises Alarm Over Uncollected PVCs as INEC Starts New Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Zamfara State has received approval to begin the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. Dr. Mahmuda Isah, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), disclosed this during a stakeholders' meeting at the INEC conference hall in Gusau. He emphasized that the exercise is part of a nationwide effort and urged eligible Nigerians to obtain their voter cards to participate in elections, whether as voters or candidates.

Dr. Isah confirmed that INEC has resumed CVR activities across the country, combining online pre-registration with in-person registration starting January 5, 2026, at local government offices. The registration is open to first-time voters aged 18 and above, those replacing lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and individuals needing transfers or updates to their voter information. Online processing is available, with physical completion at any of the 15 designated centers in Zamfara, including INEC’s state office in Gusau.

Following the meeting, Hassan Mohammed Daudawa, the acting chairman of the PDP in Zamfara, raised concerns about over 500 uncollected voter cards in the state. He warned that this gap could negatively impact the 2027 elections and urged media organizations to educate voters on the importance of collecting their PVCs after registration to prevent a repeat of the issue in the ongoing CVR phase.
