The incident took place in Yauri Local Government Area, specifically near Gumbi village, where a group of wedding guests had accompanied a bride to her new home in Gwarzo village, Ngaski LGA.

The victims were returning from the celebration when their boat capsized, plunging over 100 passengers into the water. Among those who lost their lives were 13 women and one child, adding to the grief of their families and the entire community. The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the region, as such accidents have become increasingly frequent, raising serious concerns about safety measures along the riverbanks.

Governor Nasir Idris expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, attending the funeral prayers to offer his condolences to the bereaved families, the local government, and the Yauri Emirate. Represented by Yauri LGA Chairman Abubakar Shu’aibu, the governor urged the community to accept the tragedy as part of God’s divine will, emphasizing that no event occurs without His knowledge. He prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and for their eternal rest in paradise.

The governor’s words sought to bring comfort, reminding the people that faith in God’s plan is essential in moments of despair. He stressed that human understanding is limited and that questioning divine decree has no place in such painful circumstances.

All the victims were laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites, as the community mourned their untimely passing.
