Gov. Idris Consoles With Maiyama LG Over Suspected Lakurawa Attack

The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has paid a condolence visit to the people of Dadin Kowa in Maiyama Local Government Area over the recent attack by suspected Lakurawa sect.

In a statement signed by Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to Kebbi State Governor, said the incident, which occurred on Wednesday night during Isha'i/Tarawih prayer in a Mosque claimed six lives of the worshippers.

The governor expressed sympathy over the lost of lives, while describing the incident as barbaric and ungodly act.

He pledged the commitment of his administration to continue to support the security agencies in the state to enable them discharge their legitimate responsibility diligently.

"Security is one of the topmost priorities of this administration. Therefore, we will do everything possible to support security agencies to curb crimes and criminalities in the society.

"We have already mobilised military personnel and other security agencies to be stationed in the area and ensure that such ugly action does not occur in future.

"My administration will continue to protect lives and property of the good people of Kebbi State. 

"I urge the people to support the security agencies with credible intelligence, so that together we can restore prevailing peace in our respective communities," he noted. 

While praying for the reposed souls of the deceased, the governor urged the immediate families of the deceased, Dadin Kowa community and Maiyama LG to take heart and remain prayerful.

Responding, the District Head of Andare, Alhaji Mohammed Aliyu explained that the attack followed the recent success recorded by the Nigerian Army, where many of Lakurawa sect members were neutralised.

He thanked the governor for taking immediate proactive measures to ensure protection of lives and property.

"Your Excellency three people died instantly in this attack, another three died at the hospital while another set of the three people are still responding to treatments," he said.

The district head appreciated the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris for supporting the deceased families as well as the injured victims.
