A pivotal step in this journey was the creation of the Zamfara State Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA), which has played a central role in fostering innovation, facilitating partnerships, and accelerating digital adoption across the state. Dr. Habib Gajam, the Executive Secretary of ZITDA, emphasized that Governor Lawal’s vision has not only streamlined governance but also empowered residents by integrating technology into everyday life.
Among the notable accomplishments under this initiative is the establishment of the Zamfara Institute of Information Technology (ZIIT), a groundbreaking institution dedicated to ICT education, research, and technological advancement. Additionally, Zamfara became the first state in Nigeria to implement a Digital Literacy Framework (ZDLF), designed to equip citizens with critical digital skills, enhance e-governance, and drive economic inclusion.
The state’s digital strides have also gained international attention, most notably through a landmark partnership with Oracle under its Skills Development Initiative. Signed in London in April 2025, this collaboration focuses on youth empowerment, workforce development, and expanding Zamfara’s role in the global digital economy. Through this agreement, young people in the state will gain access to world-class ICT training, further strengthening the region’s technological capabilities.
At the national level, Zamfara’s progress has been widely recognized, earning top honors in Digital Technology Infrastructure Development and E-Government at recent National Council meetings. These accolades highlight the state’s commitment to excellence in digital transformation and human capital development.
Dr. Gajam attributed these successes to strong leadership, collaborative efforts, and ZITDA’s unwavering dedication to leveraging technology for sustainable growth. Moving forward, the agency remains focused on broadening digital access, fostering innovation, and ensuring that technology continues to drive positive change across Zamfara State.
