The Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Training School, Maiduguri, in collaboration with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), has successfully concluded a series of specialised courses conducted over a period of seven (7) months.
The training programme, which commenced on 28th July, 2025 and concluded on 27th February, 2026, was organised by the NPF EOD-CBRN Command in partnership with UNMAS as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen counter-IED and explosive hazard response capacity in the North-East region.
Participants were carefully selected from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), drawn from various states across the North-East.
The intensive theoretical and practical training covers critical topics such as:
• Explosive Hazard Awareness Training (EHAT)
• Conventional Munitions Disposal (CMD) Levels 1, 2 & 3
• Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) Training
• Improvised Explosive Device Disposal – In-Situ (IEDDis)
At the end of the programme, fifteen (15) officers successfully completed the Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDDis) course.
The training comprised both theoretical and intensive practical sessions, exposing participants to International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) procedures, with emphasis on the identification, detection, location, mitigation of hazards, and safe disposal of Explosive Remnants of War (ERWs) and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
During the graduation ceremony, participants conducted practical demonstrations, including IED disposal procedures, sand modelling exercises, and the use of the F-3 MineLab detector, showcasing the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the training period.
Dignitaries in attendance at the ceremony included:
• Deputy Commissioner of Police, Police EOD-CBRN, Force Headquarters Abuja, DCP Helari Ndoma, representing the Commissioner of Police EOD-CBRN, FHQ;
• Chief of Mine Action Programme, UNMAS, Mr. Edwin Feigmane;
• Brigadier General E. E. Igoche, Police Military Coordinator;
• Brigadier General A. S. Saleh, representing the Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, Joint Task Force North-East;
• ACP Jawi Muhammed, representing the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command.
In their remarks, participants were urged to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, adhere strictly to established safety protocols, and apply the knowledge acquired in safeguarding lives and property. They were further encouraged to serve as force multipliers by cascading the training to other personnel within their respective formations.
The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to strengthening inter-agency collaboration and international partnerships in addressing explosive threats and enhancing public safety across the country.
