Authorities have observed a troubling increase in these violations, where motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle operators, motorcyclists, and even cyclists ignore traffic directions, putting themselves and others at grave risk. Such actions not only disrupt public safety but also contribute to preventable accidents, injuries, and loss of lives, alongside significant damage to property.
In an official statement released by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Saleh Ibrahim Kwaren Shinkafi, it was stressed that driving against traffic is a serious offense under traffic laws. The Commandant and Chief Executive Officer of ZAROTA, Muhammad Bello Musa Ataka Gusau, has ordered all area commanders and divisional officers to step up enforcement efforts statewide. Offenders will be apprehended and prosecuted without leniency, as the agency aims to curb this hazardous trend.
Road users are strongly advised to adhere to traffic regulations, obey road signs, and exercise responsibility while on the road. The Commandant reiterated that no one is exempt from the law—whether private individuals, commercial drivers, or riders—and violations will be met with strict penalties.
Additionally, ZAROTA has called on parents, transport unions, fleet operators, and community leaders to educate their members and dependents about the dangers of this unlawful practice. The agency remains dedicated to safeguarding all road users and ensuring orderly movement across Zamfara’s highways and streets.
