The training exercise, which took place at the Zonal HQ, focused on equipping personnel with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely and effectively respond to fires involving electric vehicles (EVs).
With the growing presence of electrically powered vehicles and modern automotive technologies, the Service recognizes the importance of preparing firefighters for emerging fire risks and response methods.
During the training session, participants were exposed to critical safety procedures, the unique hazards associated with electric vehicle batteries, and appropriate firefighting tactics required to contain and extinguish such fires. The program also emphasized the use of specialized equipment, proper isolation of power sources, and methods to prevent re-ignition.
Speaking during the exercise, the Zonal Controller, CF A. A. Alfa, reiterated that continuous training remains a core priority of the Federal Fire Service. He also emphasized that capacity-building initiatives like this ensure that personnel remain professionally competent and operationally ready to respond to evolving fire emergencies.
The training, which was anchored by DSF Nwikiri Gift, further highlighted the importance of preparedness, teamwork, and adherence to international firefighting standards in protecting lives, property, and the environment.
