The clampdown was prompted by growing frustration from households in Birnin Ruwa, Tullukawa, and Yar Gada, where locals say groups known around town as “Arlet Boys” had turned residential streets into racing tracks. Residents described constant noise, near misses with pedestrians, and deliberate stunts that left children and elderly people afraid to move around after sunset. Complaints had been building for weeks, with community leaders warning that the situation was becoming a threat to peace and safety in the state capital.
Acting on that feedback, police teams moved into several known hideouts and black spots across the affected neighborhoods at around half past seven in the evening on June 7, 2026. The raids were coordinated to happen simultaneously so suspects would not escape to nearby areas. By the end of the operation, officers had arrested twenty-one individuals and taken twenty motorcycles into custody.
The Zamfara State Police Command said every suspect will now go through detailed screening and investigation to determine their level of involvement. Anyone found to have broken the law will be charged to court, while those cleared will be released. The Command stressed that the exercise is not a one-off response but part of a broader push to restore calm and protect lives and property across Gusau. Officers also appealed to the public to keep sharing timely and reliable information, noting that community tips were what made the latest operation possible in the first place.
Authorities believe sustained pressure on reckless riding and related disturbances will gradually return normalcy to the affected communities. They also pointed out that beyond arrests, the goal is to send a clear message that public spaces should remain safe for families, businesses, and schools. For now, patrols have been increased in Birnin Ruwa, Tullukawa, and Yar Gada, and residents say they have already noticed quieter nights since the operation. The Command promised to maintain visibility and follow up with more targeted actions wherever similar complaints arise.
