The flag-off ceremony, held at the Yobe State Government House in Damaturu, was conducted in collaboration with the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni.
The intervention targets thousands of vulnerable households across the state and is aimed at providing urgent relief to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), vulnerable families, women, children, and other at-risk groups affected by economic hardship and food insecurity.
Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Sununu explained that the initiative is part of the Federal Government’s response to projections indicating that about 35 million Nigerians are at risk of extreme hunger. He stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, directed the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to take immediate and decisive measures to mitigate the looming food crisis.
According to the Minister, the distribution exercise demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to cushioning the effects of economic hardship while strengthening social protection systems nationwide. He added that beyond emergency food assistance, the Ministry is working towards institutionalising humanitarian services to ensure structured, transparent, and sustainable support for vulnerable populations.
