The Deputy Governor made this known in his opening remarks at the monthly meeting of the Zamfara State Standing Committee on Primary Health Care System held on Thursday, 4th March 2026, at the Office of the Deputy Governor, Old Malam Yahaya Gusau Secretariat, Gusau.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting members the opportunity to witness another meeting dedicated to improving the health sector in the state.
He emphasized that the importance of immunization in safeguarding the health of citizens, particularly children, cannot be overemphasized, noting that vaccination remains one of the most cost-effective health interventions for preventing diseases that continue to threaten communities.
The Deputy Governor acknowledged that Zamfara State has faced several public health challenges over the years, including maternal and child mortality, malnutrition, and vaccine-preventable diseases, which have placed considerable pressure on the health care system.
However, he commended the efforts of the Zamfara State Government, health workers, development partners, and members of the State Taskforce Committee on Primary Health Care for their dedication and achievements. He particularly congratulated the committee for successfully leading the North-West region in the National Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge 2025.
According to him, while the achievement is commendable, the next major task is to sustain the current progress and strive to win the national championship in the 2026 edition of the competition.
“As we continue to lead in the leadership competition, we must intensify our efforts to win the fight against health emergencies in the state,” the Deputy Governor stated.
He also used the opportunity to inform stakeholders and the general public about the upcoming Polio Vaccination Exercise tagged the ‘Ramadan March Campaign’, during which over 1.3 million eligible children across Zamfara State are expected to receive the vaccine.
The Deputy Governor called on the Honourable Commissioner for Health and the Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Board to ensure strict monitoring and evaluation mechanisms are put in place to guarantee that vaccines reach the intended beneficiaries.
On behalf of the Governor of Zamfara State, His Excellency Dauda Lawal (Gamjin Gusau), the Deputy Governor appreciated the commitment and contributions of members of the committee and development partners towards strengthening the state’s health care system.
He urged participants to engage in fruitful deliberations that would further enhance health service delivery in Zamfara State.
