The Zamfara House of Assembly, under the factional leadership of Rt. Hon. Speaker Bashir Aliyu Gummi, has accused Governor Dauda Lawal of abandoning his people amidst rising insecurity in the state. The speaker described the governor's actions as insensitive and inhuman, citing recent attacks on innocent communities, including Jangebe, Damri, and Kyambarawa, where hundreds of people were abducted and others killed.
The lawmakers condemned the governor for failing to commiserate with the victims or provide relief to the affected families, instead proceeding on his annual leave. They criticized the government for receiving ₦2 billion in monthly security votes yet failing to protect lives and properties.
The assembly highlighted the escalating insecurity in the state, with daily abductions and killings. The lawmakers criticized the government for not providing assistance to victims and their families. They alleged that the government is diverting funds meant for security and development projects.
The lawmakers constituted a committee to investigate the utilization of donor agencies' funds and the whereabouts of local government deductions. Hon. Aliyu Ango Kagara will chair the committee, with Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi Maru, Hon. Amiru Ahmed, and Hon. Ibrahim Tudu Tukur as members. Deputy Clark Sani Ibrahim Tudu will serve as the secretary.
The committee is mandated to enquire from the country office of all the three donor agencies of Agile, CSDA, and Acreasal in Abuja to ascertain the total amount received and how they were utilized.
The house also deliberated on the letter received from the constitutional review committee on the need to create new local government councils areas. The proposed local government areas to be created include Dansadau out of Maru Local Government, Sauri out of Tsafe, Mada and Magami out of Gusau, Jangebe and Kagamo out of Talata-Mafara, Moriki out of Zurmi, Daki-Takwas out of Gummi, Kotorkoshi and Nahuche out of Bungudu, Faru out of Maradun, Kasuwar Daji out of Kaura Namoda, and Damri out of Bakura Local Government areas.
