The National Assembly has resolved to collaborate with state governors and local government chairmen to ensure full participation and compliance with the Employees' Compensation Scheme (ECS) across all tiers of government.
This resolution was reached at a two-day strategic retreat organized by the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) for the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Labour, Employment and Productivity.
The lawmakers committed to pushing for full compliance with the scheme, expanding its coverage, and ensuring adequate funding in annual budgets.
They also pledged support for the NSITF to enhance its operational capacity and achieve the objectives of the ECS.
The retreat emphasized the need for aggressive sensitization campaigns, strategic partnerships, and innovative approaches to bring more employers and workers under the scheme.
It also called for a stakeholders' meeting on the pending bill to amend existing NSITF and ECS laws, aiming to strengthen social security and enhance labour productivity nationwide.
